Eva Avenue: Nocturne Painter & BEYOND
Trained to slice pata negra as part of a performance installation for the show “Ferran Adrià: The Invention of Food” at the Dali Museum in St. Pete, FL.
Eva Avenue is a force of nature: nuclear, visionary, and relentless in her creative pursuit. Her work explores dynamics among traditional painting, emotional alchemy, and radical presence. She creates collections that emerge both in inspired bursts and through long-term, deliberate vision. Drawing from midnight reveries, botanical wit, psychogeography, and a life lived at the edge of wonder and survival, Eva poses the essential question: How can we optimize the miracle of our very existence?
She has endured extraordinary challenges in service to her art. While in the northeast of Spain, Eva survived a near-fatal viper bite that required six surgeries over five weeks to heal. Her life has spanned countries and cultures, from goat cheese farms in southern France to bookstores in Paris, from a retrospective collage-inspired installation in Belfast to an object-theater debut in New Mexico. Born in Amsterdam and raised in Portugal and Florida, she weaves her diverse, cross-cultural lineage into everything she creates.
Eva was the prototype creative subject in a groundbreaking neuroscience study led by Dr. Rex Jung, where her brain was mapped using MRI scans to explore the architecture of creativity. A commissioned painting of hers now hangs in the lab. She is a painter, musician, and writer whose work has received multiple awards, including the David Gomez "Warrior With the Red Bow" Award from UNM Student Publications, Best Avant-Garde Musician from Albuquerque’s Weekly Alibi, and the Grand Prize in Painting from the Pinellas County Center for the Arts. She brings that creative breadth into every project she takes on, alongside a prolific background as a journalist, editor, and arts columnist. Her work has intersected with institutions including SITE Santa Fe, the Dali Museum, the Mütter Museum, the MIND Institute at UNM, the University of Florida, and the Art Students League of New York.
Eva moves fluidly between modes of expression—verbal, visual, physical, intuitive. Her creative process is deeply informed by heartbreak, strange luck, and profound metamorphosis. She sees what others miss, adapts quickly, and brings intensity and insight to everything she does. Beyond results, a collaboration with Eva expands the entire field of possibility. When treated with respect and vision, her work becomes exponentially powerful for everyone involved.
She is currently painting and paper-carving nocturne botanicals.
